Summer fun winds down in Hudson
HUDSON–The Hudson Department of Youth runs a six-week summer camp for kids from July 8 to August 16 at Oakdale Park. The camp is free, and the campers are supplied with breakfast and lunch and a variety of activities including field trips, cooking lessons provided by the Sylvia Center, and an exploration of the area and frog hunt led by the Columbia Land Conservancy, and swimming lessons. Also associated with the Department of Youth is a bicycle coop. Kids learn to ride and repair bikes and campers age 10 and over can build a bicycle for themselves.
Local nonprofits receive donations to support community initiatives
CHATHAM–Representatives from local non-profit organizations were presented with donations to fund a wide-variety of community projects from the Bank of Greene County’s Charitable Foundation at the bank’s Chatham branch. These non-profit groups provide a wide range of assistance and services to their local communities. This year, a total of $421,000 will be awarded to over 370 local non-profit organizations from the Bank of Greene County’s Charitable Foundation.
Police: Rensselaer man had crack cocaine
A Rensselaer man is accused of possessing crack cocaine. Albany County sheriff’s deputies were patrolling the area of South Pearl Street and Madison Avenue after a business owner complained about an uptick in crime. They stopped Glendell Ellis, 58, for a traffic violation. He had around one ounce of crack cocaine, which was packaged for sale, investigators said.

Another day and another popular business is filing for bankruptcy and closing a number of stores in New York. On Wednesday, Hudson Valley Post reported an "affordable fitness brand known for its commitment to an all-inclusive and inviting environment" filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and is closing at least 10 New York gyms.

Geddes, N.Y. — The New York State Fair opens Wednesday, Aug. 21 and once again features a variety of special days with free attendance and events for specific groups.
