The 2024 Old North State League All-Star Game is set for June 28 and two Wake Forest players have been announced to be participating while one will be in the Home Run Derby.
“We all are super excited for this weekend, this event is always an awesome time to highlight a lot of the great players throughout the Old North State League,” said Alec Allred, CEO of The Players League. “I want to thank Louis DeCarolis, Wasabi Sports and the entire Clayton Clovers organization for their part in this year’s All-Star Game. They always put on good events and I know this will be no different.”
Centerfielder Nick DiCarlo and third baseman Hudson Cepparulo both made the all-star roster which was voted upon by the league’s board of directors and will head to Clayton, N.C. to take part in the game.
On the year, DiCarlo had 14 stolen bases, No. 5 in the league and No. 2 in the Central Division, 24 hits, tied for No. 10 in the league and No. 7 in the division, 15 runs, No. 9 in the division and .375 batting average, No. 13 in the division.
Cepparulo had two Homers, tied for No. 8 in the league and No. 3 in the division, 17 RBIs, No. 12 in the league and No. 6 in the division, .340 batting average, No. 20 in the division and .989 on-base plus slugging, No. 10 in division among batters with more than 16 at-bats.
Second baseman JonAlan Richardson, despite no home runs thus far in the season, was selected for the Home Run Derby.
Richardson has a .381 batting average, No. 11 in the division, 12 runs, No. 16 in the division, 16 hits, No. 12 in the division, 12 RBIs, No. 14 in the division and, while it is not a product of his batting, is No. 9 in stolen bases in the division with eight.
Event day
The all-star festivities will be on Saturday, June 29 at East Clayton Community Park, home of the Clayton Clovers. The day will include two events, a home run derby and an all-star game.\The Home Run Derby, which is scheduled for 5 p.m. will feature 20 of the best power hitters in the league to start round 1. The contest will feature four rounds, with contestants being eliminated each round until the final two face off to crown a winner.
The All-Star Game will be played at 7:05 p.m. as fans will get the chance to watch the best the Old North State League has to offer from each team. The league has divided the teams in order to have two rosters, representing the West and the East; the Western and Central divisions make up the Western team, while the Northeastern and Southeastern teams join the Eastern All-Star team.
There will also be some non-baseball-related events slated for the day such as a BBQ judging and a pig contest.
