Sartell City Council Approves Adding 3 Police Officers
SARTELL (WJON News) -- The City of Sartell will be increasing its police force by three positions. At Monday's city council meeting the council approved the staff increase to 27 officers. Chief Silgjord made the request for the three additional positions stating there are times on late night shifts when they only have 1 officer on duty and there should be two officers on duty at all times.

St. Cloud Approves Conversion of 1010 Park into Community Outpost with DOJ Grant and Local Funds
(KNSI) – St. Cloud has approved plans to turn a building at 1010 Park into a Community Outpost. The city council gave a thumbs up to using a $475,000 grant from the Department of Justice and $430,000 from St. Cloud’s voter-approved park levy funds. The facility will operate programs that cater to families in the Promise Neighborhood. The non-profit has been providing academic programs for youth and resources for adults for years in that space. They will remain in the building.
Stearns County Launches Website to Inform Residents About A Proposed $325 million Justice Center to Address Overcrowding
(KNSI) – Stearns County has launched a website to inform residents about a proposed project to build a new justice center. On November 5th, voters will be asked to approve a 3/8th cent sales tax to cover the cost of the estimated $325 million facility. Construction would include a new 270-bed jail, a courthouse with 14 courtrooms, and new county attorney offices in a location outside of downtown St. Cloud in a yet-to-be-determined space. The Stearns County Board of Commissioners says if the new buildings are not approved through the ballot box, the cost of construction will be passed solely onto property taxpayers.

St. Cloud Council Weighs In On New County Jail, SCSU Future
(KNSI) – In a wide-ranging agenda Monday night, the St. Cloud City Council addressed the future of the Stearns County Justice Center and St. Cloud State University. It moved debate over a resolution on the site of the new jail until a future meeting. Member George Hontos says he believes that choosing a greenspace in another part of the city or on nearby township land that would need to be annexed into St. Cloud would be detrimental to the city as a whole. Hontos made the case that moving the jail would cripple downtown’s economic viability.

Homeless Level Three Predatory Offender “Moves” to St. Cloud
(KNSI) — The St. Cloud Police Department says a Level Three Predatory Offender has moved into the city. James Stamps Junior told authorities he arrived in town on July 22nd and listed his address as homeless, but said he is working on securing more permanent housing soon. Offenders listed as homeless are required to check in once a week with police.
Man killed in crash southwest of Willmar Tuesday morning
(Willmar MN-) A Willmar man is dead after a crash between a car and a semi loaded with turkeys southwest of Willmar this morning. The crash happened during the heavy rainstorm on Highway 23 near Kandiyohi County Road 5 on the southwest corner of Willmar, around 7:47 a.m. Preliminary info is that the 42-year-old driver of the Honda Civic was killed and the semi driver, a 30-year-old Willmar man, was not injured. The semi was traveling eastbound, toward Willmar, and the Honda was westbound on 23 when they collided. No names have been released at this time.
