COLUMBIA, S.C. (WSPA) — Davis Wash earned the title of Miss South Carolina on June 29.

Wash grew up in Edgefield, South Carolina and competed in pageants at an early age. She previously held the title of Miss Clemson 2024.

She hopes to continue inspiring others during her reign.

“I just want to take in every second I have with this and just try to make it as big as I can. I know that I have such a responsibility and such an incredible opportunity to make an impact in the state that has given me the world and I want to give back to everyone that has helped me get here,” said Wash.

For Wash, giving back means helping children with incarcerated parents and reconnecting families. An experience she said is personal.

“I’m hoping to touch every child in South Carolina that is sitting at home without a loved one at home with them because that is a very lonesome feeling that I have known before. My father is home now and our family is whole again but that’s not a reality for a lot of children that face this,” said Wash.

Wash spends her weekends helping local non profits reconnect inmates with their children.

“I also have an amazing partnership with Riley’s Readers which is a program in South Carolina where children’s bedtime stories are recorded by their mother or father that are inside of these prisons. At night these sons and daughters have a book they can have their parents read to them before they go to sleep,” said Wash.

Winning Miss South Carolina is more than just the crown. To her, it’s about guiding and empowering the youth.

“I know how they feel because I’ve been the child that’s in the waiting room waiting to see their father. I want to be a guiding light for them and I want to be someone they can look to see no matter what obstacle that is placed in front of them so that they can still chase those big dreams no matter how scary they are,” said Wash.

Wash will represent South Carolina at the Miss America pageant next year.

If Wash wins the Miss America crown, she will be the first from South Carolina in 30 years.
