As he enters his second season as Clemson’s full-time starting quarterback, Cade Klubnik is evolving into the type of leader the Tigers’ offense needs.

As a sophomore, Klubnik experienced numerous ups and downs during his first year as the starter. However, now that the junior signal caller is one of the elder statesmen on the offensive side of the ball and playing the most important position on the field, he is embracing his role, knowing that the rest of the offense is looking to him for that leadership.

“Cade has done an incredible job stepping up as a leader,” offensive lineman Colin Sadler said after Monday’s practice. “I feel like he is really coming into himself and he is figuring out who Cade Klubnik really is and that’s showing dividends out on the field.”

In fact, according to Sadler, Klubnik is excelling in the role early on in fall camp, and it is having an impact on the guys that protect him.

“He is genuine, he is not concerned with putting on a front for anybody,” Sadler said. “It’s just Cade and he knows that and he knows that we know that.”

Last season, Klubnik threw for 2,844 yards, hitting on 63.9% of his passes, with 19 touchdowns and nine interceptions. At the same time, he averaged just 6.26 yards per attempt as the Tigers failed went 9-4 and failed to win 10 games for the first time since 2010.

Heading into the 2024 season, his second under the tutelage of offensive coordinator Garrett Riley, more is expected of Klubnik, and  his teammates are looking to do their part to ensure the success at practice translates to the field of play.

“That is a guy I would run through a brick wall for,” Sadler said. “So I am just excited to go out there and see what he can do.”
