Instead of facing the death penalty , son killer Chad Doerman will die in prison , Clermont County Common Pleas Court Judge Richard Ferenc said Friday.

The 33-year-old was slammed with a life sentence without the possibility of parole after he entered a guilty plea for three counts of aggravated murder over the slaughter of his three sons, Clayton, 7, Hunter, 4, and Chase, 3. The boys were said to be slain execution-style at their Monroe Township in June 2023.

Mark Tekulve, Clermont County Prosecutor, bluntly stated, "[Doerman] will die in prison." He also pleaded guilty to two additional counts of felonious assault over the injuries he inflicted to his ex-wife and former stepdaughter.

The original version of the indictment included nine counts of aggravated murder along with others in connection to kidnapping and felonious assault, totaling to 21 counts. Doerman's surviving victims helped form the plea agreement, the presiding judge explained. Doerman stood trial with a blank face, showing no remorse as the judge recounted the day of the gruesome crime.

Hunter, 4, was accompanied by his mom, Doerman's wife, when the 33-year-old picked up a gun and fired two rounds into his son, prosecutors said. The shots caught the attention of Doerman's stepdaughter who rushed into the room to find the 4-year-old dead. She ran outside to get help while the now-convicted killer horrifically chased 7-year-old Clayton, the prosecutor continued.

Clayton sustained "numerous" gunshot wounds. The stepdaughter attempted to save three-year-old Chase, running back into the home and taking him in her arms. She was chased by Doerman who threatened to fire bullets at the both of them if she did not drop the three-year-old.

Prosecutors said while the stepdaughter put Chase down, she begged him not to end the little boy's life. The killer aimed the gun at his son but the magazine was empty. Doerman's wife and stepdaughter tried to get the gun away from the crazed shooter to no avail as he was able to reload and begin firing once more.

Chase ran to his mother who was adamant about saving his life. She would eventually put her thumb over the barrel as a deterrent but the killer fired anyway, sending a bullet through it. She dropped Chase and Doerman quickly killed him in a bloody "execution," prosecutors explained.

The killer's stone-cold facade sightly broke Friday once his now-former stepdaughter's victim impact statement was read by another person in court. While she said it was painful to see her stepfather locked in a cage for the remainder of his life, she also condemned his cruel actions against the young boys.

Holidays without her step siblings will never be the same because "You [Doerman] took their lives."
