The Cleveland Police Department is investigating a shooting involving Cleveland Clinic police that happened near Lutheran Hospital on West 25th Street.
Early Monday morning, more than 10 officers from both the Cleveland Clinic and Cleveland police departments were spotted placing markers near shell casings and other evidence as they investigated a shooting outside the Cleveland Clinic Lutheran Hospital.
The clinic says the incident took place Sunday around 12:30 a.m. They say the officers witnessed a domestic incident outside the hospital. They responded, and that's when the shooting took place. It is unclear who fired the shots; we are still waiting to hear more details from the police.
A resident in the area told News 5 they heard loud bangs around midnight; once they looked out the window, they were surprised by what they saw.
"I saw someone laying on the ground and then I saw a Chrysler, like, hit the fence, and then he turned around he came back like towards this way," said Lisa, who did not want her full name used.
She continued, "He was going towards Metro — that's when police started shooting."
Both officers will be on administrative leave for the next three days per clinic protocol; once they return to work, they will be reassigned until the investigation is complete.
The Cleveland Clinic remained open during the incident. We can confirm nothing transpired inside the hospital.
