Browns Hold a Unique Distinction for Futility Among NFL Teams

When it comes to NFL futility, the Cleveland Browns are something of a running joke. They are the franchise most often associated with “winning the offseason” but never being able to carry it over to the regular season. If Browns fans needed another example of just how unique this franchise is—but in all the wrong ways—here’s a great stat.

Cleveland Browns Stadium is the only NFL stadium currently in use that has never hosted a playoff game. Each of the other 29 stadiums in the league has had the privilege of a home playoff game while Cleveland's remains on the outside looking in.

The Browns have been playing at the stadium since the franchise returned to the league in 1999. During that time, the Browns have played only four playoff games in total, all on the road. They are 1-3 in those games.

The last time the Browns hosted a playoff game was all the way back in 1994. Led by coach Bill Belichick, they beat the New England Patriots 20-13 at Cleveland Municipal Stadium. For reference, the current stadium was built on the same site as Cleveland Municipal Stadium.
