Shenendehowa grad Ian Anderson posts solid line in Single-A rehab start

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. ( NEWS10 ) — In just his third appearance since returning from Tommy John surgery, Shenendehowa High School graduate Ian Anderson tossed three scoreless innings Sunday afternoon for the Augusta GreenJackets – the Atlanta Braves’ Single-A affiliate.

It’s been a tough last couple of years for Anderson, who played a key role in the Braves’ 2021 World Series championship. After being demoted to Triple-A Gwinnett to finish the 2022 season, Anderson made just one start in the minors to begin the 2023 season before undergoing his surgery.

But Anderson has looked strong thus far in his comeback. He returned to the bump for the first time on June 18, making a start for the Florida Complex League Braves. He started again for the team on the 24th. In his two appearances, Anderson tossed a combined five innings, while only allowing one run.

His start with the GreenJackets Sunday against the Charleston Riverdogs was another major step forward in the rehab process. After retiring the Riverdogs in order on eight pitches in the first inning, he allowed his only hit of the afternoon to open up the second frame.

But Anderson would record a ground-out, strikeout and then fly-out to get out of the inning. He walked a batter with one out in the third. That runner reached third base; Anderson left him stranded with an inning-ending fly out to left, which also brought an end to his outing.

The final line on Anderson: 3.0 innings pitched, 1 hit allowed, 0 earned runs, 1 walk, 1 strikeout.
