JACKSON, Miss. ( WJTV ) – The lawyer for the man accused of killing a local community activist in 2022 has filed a motion for continuance of his trial.

Edwards’ attorney, Brandon Dorsey, said if the motion was granted by the Hinds County Circuit Court, they will use more time to prepare for the retrial. Dorsey said there are several outstanding motions that the judge needs to rule on before the trial starts.

Edwards’ second trial has been set for July 29, 2024, at 9:00 a.m. in Hinds County Circuit Court before Judge Eleanor Faye Peterson. He was denied bond by Peterson in October 2023 after a mistrial was declared in his case.

Edwards is accused of killing Davis inside Shadow Robinson’s Clinton home on May 1, 2022.

Edwards was arrested in connection to the case after a chase in New Orleans, Louisiana, on May 3, 2022. He was indicted for murder and being a felon in possession of a firearm in Hinds County. Edwards pled not guilty.
