It did not take long for Alabama Crimson Tide right-handed pitcher Ben Hess to hear his name called on Sunday during the first round of the 2024 MLB draft. With the No. 26 overall pick in the 2024 MLB draft, the New York Yankees drafted Hess. Hess spent three seasons in Tuscaloosa. The Illinois native finished his college career with a 12-6 record and a 4.81 earned run average. Hess holds the Alabama career record for strikeout per nine innings with 13.34. He struck out 205 batters in 138.1 innings pitched. A lot of draft experts expected Hess to be drafted in the second or third round. Hess suffered a season-ending injury during his sophomore season. However, Hess was able to bounce back and have a strong junior campaign in Tuscaloosa. As a result, he will begin his professional career as a part of the Yankees organization.
