According to the DA’s office, Carlos Lopez, 40, of Clovis, was sentenced to 11 years in the Department of Corrections for two counts of “Battery on a Police Officer.”

The charges stem from an October 2023 incident when officers who were called to a motel to remove a person from the property were reportedly attacked by Lopez.

Clovis Police found Lopez at the motel who was reported to have immediately become belligerent while clenching his hands into a fist and positioning himself in a fighting position.

Lopez was “tazed” while reportedly trying to grab an officer’s gun. CPD Officers said they verified that Lopez had an outstanding warrant for failure to comply with probation. While officers were detaining Lopez, he hit one officer in the jaw and another in the chest while attempting to bite officers.

Lopez was sentenced to 11 years in the Department of Corrections during a June trial which included a 4-year habitual for each count of battery on a Police Officer said the DA’s office.
