The Tigerettes had their season ended in the area round match-up. Photo/Brian Smith Good teams never go away. Clyde posted a Game 1 win Thursday, May 2 by an 8-5 score. After being rained out Friday, the Tigerettes stormed back Saturday, May 4 winning 11-10 in Game 2 and 7-4 in Game 3 to take the best-of-three area round series. The Tigerettes will face District 7-3A nemesis Iowa Park, who they defeated twice during the regular season, in the regional quarterfinals. Jacksboro is now 32-5 for the season with Clyde ending at 27-6. Jacksboro coach John Bennett said a meeting on the bus heading back Thursday helped refocus the team. “There were six plays we normally make in that game that we didn’t make,” Bennett said after Game 3. “We were also more patient (at the plate) today. We made their pitchers bring the ball down more and we were able to crush it.” Game 1 Clyde 8, Jacksboro 5 Jacksboro led 2-0 early and was tied 4-4 after five innings but eventually fell. Brooke Reaves’ tworun double got the-Tigerettes off on the right foot. Clyde would take a 4-2 lead after a three-run fourth inning. Jacksboro scored single runs in each of the fourth and fifth to tie the game. Lily Perez ripped a 1-1 pitch over the wall in right center to cut the lead to 4-3 in the fourth. Emma Gray opened the fifth with a walk and then stole second base. A Mathis groundout and errant throw to third in an attempt to retire Gray enabled the run to score and tied the game at 4-4 Clyde took a 5-4 lead in the sixth. The Lady Bulldogs struck for three runs in the seventh inning to take an 8-4 lead. The Tigerettes attempted a comeback in its last at-bat but it fell short. Game 2 Jacksboro 11, Clyde 10 A four-run seventh inning for the Tigerettes led to the series being tied at a game apiece. Down 9-7 to start the Jacksboro seventh, Perez was hit by a pitch to get things started. With one out, Gray and Kylie Tullous both singled to load the bases. Mathis was hit by a pitch to score Perez. A fielder’s choice play, which brought Seaberry on base but forced Gray at home, brought the Tigerettes to within their final out. Reaves laid down a perfect bunt single to score Kylie Tullous and tie the game at nine. Brailyn Tullous then smacked a double just over the shortstop to plate two runs for an 11-9 lead. Clyde got a leadoff homer in the bottom of the seventh but it was all for naught. Jacksboro had another strong start, scoring a pair of second-inning runs and three more in the third to take a 5-0 lead. The Lady Bulldogs scored three runs in the third and three in the fourth, however, to take a 6-5 lead. Jacksboro tied the game in the fifth as Reaves was hit by a pitch, Brailyn Tullous singled and Charlie Phariss walked to load the bases. Perez was hit by a pitch to plate courtesy runner Holly Lehman with the next two hitters retired on a strikeout and fly to left. Jacksboro added another run in the sixth to go up 7-6, using a Kylie Tullous single, a Mathis walk and Seaberry being hit by a pitch to load the bases. Brailyn Tullous was safe on a fielder’s choice with Seaberry retired at second and Kylie Tullous scoring on the play. Clyde used a threerun double in the bottom of the sixth to go up 9-7 and set up the seventh-inning heroics for the Tigerettes. Game 3 Jacksboro 7, Clyde 4 With the series tied 1-1, Jacksboro got out to a quick start in the finale, scoring a single run in the first inning and three more in the second inning. Kylie Tullous had an infield single to bring home Emma Gray, who opened the Jacksboro first with a double. In the Tigerette second, Perez opened with a single with Rylee Bennett being hit by a pitch. Both moved up a wild pitch. Perez scored on a shortstop’s error, which brought Gray aboard. A Mathis single scored Bennett for a 3-0 lead with Gray coming home on a fielder’s choice play, which brought Seaberry aboard. Clyde got within 4-2 with single runs in both the third and fourth innings. Jacksboro got one of the runs back as Gray led off the bottom of the fourth with a home run for a 5-2 lead. A two-run Tigerette fifth opened with Brailyn Tullous reaching on an error. With one out, Perez laid down a perfect bunt single to put runners at the corners. A Gray double brought home Brailyn Tullous with Kylie Tullous scoring Perez on an infield single to extend the lead to 7-2. Clyde would cut the deficit to 7-4 in the sixth but would get no closer.
