COHOES, N.Y. ( NEWS10 ) — The City of Cohoes received a $1.5M grant from the New York State Department of Transportation’s “Bridge NY” program. City officials say the money will be put toward a culvert replacement project on Saratoga Street (SR-32).

MJ Engineering and Land Surveying, based out of Clifton Park, will manage and design the project. The project will look to reduce flooding risks in the area.

The culvert to be replaced spans the Salt Kill and has seen significant flooding, leading to periodic road closures over the years.

“This is a big win for Cohoes,” said Mayor Bill Keeler. “Addressing the culvert’s ongoing issues will significantly enhance our community’s resilience against flooding incidents.”

Keeler continued, saying, “This grant underscores the state’s commitment to improving our infrastructure and ensuring the safety and well-being of our residents.” Construction for the project is expected to begin in the Fall of 2025.
