With the Texas Longhorns' running back room fresh on news of CJ Baxter's season-ending knee injury, the program received even more troubling news on Tuesday when test results determined Christian Clark had torn his Achilles during practice.

Clark joined the Longhorns this past spring but was not expected to be a major contributor during the 2024 season. However, in the wake of Baxter's injury, Clark became a candidate to receive more touches alongside teammates Jaydon Blue, Tre Wisner and Jerrick Gibson.

“Texas freshman running back Christian Clark sustained a torn Achilles tendon in practice on Monday, will undergo surgery and be out for the season, UT confirms,” Justin Wells on Inside Texas reported via X.

The season-ending injuries to Baxter and Clark before the first snap of the 2024 college football season will now test the resilience of the Longhorns' running back corps. As of the current depth chart, Jaydon Blue, Quintrevion Wisne, and Jerrick Gibson are the only remaining true-form players in the running back position for the upcoming season.

The No. 4-ranked Longhorns open their 2024 campaign against the Colorado State Rams at Darrell K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium on Aug. 31, with a 3:30 p.m. (ET) kickoff on ESPN.
