Howard has a good enough team to at least give Rutgers a little bit of a run.
The Scarlet Knights have a few tune-ups with this and Akron to follow before getting a week off to get ready for Virginia Tech, but the Bison are experienced and sharp.
At least for a little while, this should be more than just a scrimmage.

Why Howard Will Win
The Bison should once again be dangerous moving the ball.
Last year’s team was great defensively, was excellent on both sides on third downs, and it didn’t make a slew of big mistakes.
The running back combination of Eden James and Jarett Hunter will keep being fed the ball, there’s speed and experience in the defensive back seven, and again, as long as the attack is able to convert on third downs can control the clock a little bit, this should be a bit of a fight.
However …
Why Rutgers Will Win
This is a good warm-up for the Rutgers passing game.
Minnesota transfer Athan Kaliakmanis is expected to finally give the team a steady attack to balance things out - all he has to do is throw effectively and be consistent. The lines should take care of the rest.
The defensive front should hold up just fine against the Bison ground game, and the O will still focus around the rushing attack.
Kaliakmanis should get plenty of time, but the bulk of the Rutgers offensive front should take over to control things early on. But again …
Rutgers vs Howard: Who Will Win
Rutgers will want to use this for the passing game.
It knows it can run, and it knows the defense can hold up, but the receiving corps that’s the strongest it’s been in years should be the story. The last time these two met was 2016. It won’t be as bad as the 52-14 Scarlet Knight win back then, but it won’t be too far off.
