Why Duquesne Will Win

The Dukes will keep pushing the ball deep and look to overcome other problems by hitting the big play.

It’s the other side of the ball that’s the big deal for the Rockets, losing the stars in the backfield and this is a warm-up for the line that needs a ton of key replacements to rise up, too. Duquesne might not have been able to generate enough big stops and it wasn’t consistent, but pull off a few turnovers and this should stay close.

Why Toledo Will Win

Yes, Toledo is missing a slew of key parts, and yes, it might take a little while to get the offensive backfield right, but the receiving corps is loaded, the O line isn’t that bad, and the passing game should be fine.

As good as Duquesne was throughout the second half of last year, there were turnover problems. If the Toledo defense can at least match the Duke D in turnover margin, there won’t be a problem.

More than any other MAC team, no one obliterates FCS teams like Toledo does. The closes recent game was a 33-21 win over Eastern Washington in 2013.

This won’t be an annihilation, but for at least the first week it’ll be business as usual for the Rockets as the offense looks more than fine even with the new parts.
