Significant changes in college football have occurred leading up to the 2024 season. Nick Saban has left Alabama and been replaced by Kalen DeBoer, the former head coach of Washington. DeBoer is coming off of leading his team to the national championship game.

That move garnered the most attention, but another move with less attention was the Texas A&M Aggies' decision to replace its coaching staff after firing Jimbo Fisher last season. Fisher was succeeded by former Duke head coach Mike Elko, who had a 16-9 record in two seasons at Duke. Prior to his time at Duke, Elko served as the defensive coordinator for the Aggies from 2018 to 2021.

ESPN analyst and Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow recently appeared on SportsCenter to discuss teams that interest him for the upcoming 2024 season. He mentioned that one of those teams is the Aggies, but he doesn't believe they will be contenders in their first year under Elko. Nonetheless, he believes that Texas A&M has a lot of talent.

"Texas A&M is intriguing because (they have) a new coaching staff, still a lot of talent," Tebow said. "I don't think they will be there in Year 1, but they still have a lot of players. Collin Klein as the OC, I love him."

According to ESPN's Football Power Index , which measures team strength and is meant to be the best predictor of a team's future performance for the rest of the season, the Aggies are projected to finish No. 8 in the SEC. The FPI has the Aggies winning seven games in 2024.

The Aggies have a 3.2% chance of winning the conference, a 21% chance of making the College Football Playoff and a 1% chance of winning a national championship. So, only time will tell if Texas A&M can surprise and contend.
