One of the best players in the nation is set to commit this week and has the Texas A&M Aggies within his final group of schools .
Kaliq Lockett is rated by 247 as the No. 2 wide receiver in the nation, the No. 5 player in the state of Texas , and the No. 12 player overall . Another in-state superstar out of Sachse , Lockett has long been seen as a virtual Texas lock, but could the Aggies throw their hat in the ring at the final hour?
Lockett will make his decision on Wednesday, August 7 and will choose between the Longhorns, the Aggies, Alabama , LSU , and Florida State . In an interview with Steve Wiltfong of On3 , Lockett spoke about why Texas A&M made his final group and what he likes about Aggieland.
“I believe in Coach Elko. He has the opportunity to turn A&M into a top program in the country," Lockett told Wiltfong . "I like the recruiting class also. I like [wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins] and the guys he’s put in the league like Jerry Jeudy and Devonta Smith and those guys.”
As an elite recruit, Lockett does not make it a secret that his preference if everything goes right is to stay in school for just three years before leaving for the NFL .
"My plan is to go three years and done. The school that I chose is the best way to be one of the best receivers in the country and to be a first-round receiver,” he said .
As Lockett mentioned, new wide receivers coach Holmon Wiggins has a long history at Alabama of putting wide receivers in the NFL and turning them into first round picks, which certainly gives the Aggies a chance.
On3's Recruiting Prediction Machine , however, has Texas at nearly an 84 percent chance to land Lockett's commitment. We will find out on Wednesday, August 7 when he officially makes his announcement.
