    City hosts free events for National Park and Recreation Month

    (COLORADO SPRINGS) — In celebration of National Park and Recreation Month this July, the city of Colorado Springs will be offering numerous free events throughout the community.

    Park and Recreation Month celebrates the different services that are vitally important to the quality of life and the preservation of outdoor spaces. This year’s theme is “Where You Belong” which highlights the many ways park and recreation professionals across the country foster a sense of belonging in their community.

    Some free events in the community include a coloring contest, the annual Discover COS Calendar photo contest, and Music in the Park at Panorama Park and Piñon Valley Park.

    The Kids’ Coloring Contest begins Monday, July 1. The last page of the book is the official coloring sheet, individuals must complete it and return it, in person or online, to be entered into the contest.

    Four winners will be announced on Colorado Springs Parks’ social media on Thursday, Aug 31. Prizes include kid’s items and a grab bag of candy.

    “We are so fortunate to live in a community with such abundant opportunities for parks, trails, and recreation,” said Britt Haley, Director of the Colorado Springs Parks, Recreation and Cultural Services Department. “From our awe-inspiring open spaces to our vibrant community events and programs, living in a city with such a wealth of parks and recreational activities truly contributes to our mental and physical well-being. These resources enrich our quality of life.”

    The Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Services Department will accept photo submissions for its Discover COS calendar starting Monday, July 15. The 2025 calendar, produced this fall, will be the twelfth edition highlighting parks, trails, and open spaces in Colorado Springs.

    Free community events start Friday, July 12 at Panorama Park, Food trucks are set to arrive at 5:30 p.m., music will begin at 6 p.m. and giveaways will kick off at 7:45 p.m.

    On Friday, July 26, there will be Music in the Park at Piñon Valley from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

    The sixth Parks and Recreation Professional Day will be celebrated on Friday, July 19.
