Local non-profit takes a leap for Colorado Springs kids

(COLORADO SPRINGS) — A daring group of volunteers from the Colorado Springs chapter of Friends of the Children is ready to take a leap for kids in need. On August 17, 80 people who have raised funds for Friends of the Children will get a chance to rappel down a 12-story building in Colorado Springs.

Founded in Oregon over 30 years ago, Friends of the Children is a non-profit organization that cares for youth who have been impacted by adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) like economic instability, foster care, substance abuse, parental incarceration, and mental health challenges. Every child enrolled in the program is assigned a paid, professional mentor that provides long-term stability and support.

The event—aptly named Over the Edge —is an “innovative fundraising event for thrill-seekers” which will take place at the Alamo Corporate Center in downtown Colorado Springs. Family, friends, and crowds will gather to watch the rappelers (which include VIP participants from local media, and elected officials) perform a daring feat to support children in our community.

The event will start at 9 a.m. on August 17, at the Alamo Corporate Center, located at 102 S. Tejon Street in beautiful downtown Colorado Springs. Live music and food trucks will be in attendance.

Over the Edge is free and open to the public.
