Here are the big calls among our top 10 college football win totals.
There's one based on the scientific "just because" method of predictions (Notre Dame).
Another is mostly based on history and trying not to ignore it (SMU), another is mostly based on history, and trying not to ignore it, but in a different way (Air Force), and the No. 1 top college football win total is all about think the train might go flying off the tracks without a hot start (Colorado).
The win totals are only based on the regular season, and the Consensus Win Total is a combination of BetMGM, Caesars, FanDuel, and CFN's call of where the lines should be, the top college football win totals are ...

Top 10 College Football Win Total Predictions: 1 to 4

4. Notre Dame
Consensus Win Total: 10.375 CFN Regular Season Prediction: 10-2 Win Total Prediction: Under
On talent, schedule, and upside, Notre Dame can absolutely go 11-1 or 12-0. This is strictly an Any Given Saturday play.
The Irish just need to lose twice to get the under. They could lose the opener at Texas A&M, and they still have Florida State and at USC to deal with.
One wrong performance against Louisville, or at Georgia Tech, or even at Purdue - or one injury to QB Riley Leonard, assuming the ankle really is 100% rock-solid to begin with - and there are your two losses. Notre Dame Preview | Schedule
3. SMU
Consensus Win Total: 8.25 CFN Regular Season Prediction: 6-6 Win Total Prediction: Under
How did UCF, Cincinnati, and Houston do after making the jump from the American Athletic Conference to the Big 12? (Answer, six wins, three, and four, respectively.)
SMU won the AAC title last year and finished 11-3. The three losses were to … Oklahoma, TCU, and Boston College - the three Power Five programs.
SMU beat TCU in 2019 and 2021. The previous regular season victory over an at-the-time Power Five program was over a miserable Washington State team in 2010.
The Mustangs should get to at least six wins as a new ACC member, but this will be a whole new world. The program is 2-8 in the last ten games against at-the-time Power Five programs. It plays ten Power Four games this year. SMU Preview | Schedule
2. Air Force
Consensus Win Total: 6.875 CFN Regular Season Prediction: 9-3 Win Total Prediction: Over
EVERY year - hand raised high on this - everyone freaks out over Air Force losing just about everyone from the previous season. And … eight regular season wins last season. Nine wins in 2022, nine in 2021, ten in 2019 - the Falcons only played six games in 2020.
You need seven wins. Merrimack, San Jose State, Navy, at New Mexico, at Nevada. There should be at least a base of four, if not five. There’s no Boise State or UNLV on the slate, and overall the schedule just isn’t that bad. Air Force Preview | Schedule
1. Colorado
Consensus Win Total: 5.5 CFN Regular Season Prediction: 3-9 Win Total Prediction: Under
As an unabashed superfan of all things Deion Sanders from WAY back in the day - and a fan of the Colorado storyline - I hope I’m wrong about this.
It’ll take a whole lot of improvement on the lines to get to six wins, and if it goes off the rails like I think it might early on, this won't be pretty.
North Dakota State could absolutely pull off the win in the opener in Boulder. Going to Nebraska is a huge problem, and dealing with an improved Colorado State is scary. Start 1-2 - or possibly 0-3 - and uh-oh.
At Arizona, at Texas Tech, at Kansas (sort of, it’s in Kansas City), at UCF, Utah, Baylor (it’ll be a lot better), Kansas State, Oklahoma State - there are at least four losses out of that group, more likely six. Colorado Preview | Schedule
