Three Gamecocks to play in 2024 WNBA All-Star Game featuring Team USA

Three former South Carolina Gamecocks will participate in the 2024 WNBA All-Star Game, the league announced Tuesday on ESPN: A’ja Wilson, Allisha Gray and Aliyah Boston .

The All-Star Game will feature a matchup of the league’s All-Stars vs. U.S. women’s national team before the latter seeks its eighth consecutive Olympic gold medal in Paris this summer. USC great Wilson will suit up with Team USA. Gray and Boston will play for Team WNBA.

All-Star voting took into account input from fans (50%), current WNBA players (25%) and media members (25%). Voting took place June 13-29.

Players who finished in the top-10 were automatically named to the All-Star game. Those not already included on the 5-on-5 Olympic roster were assigned to the WNBA team. The league’s 12 head coaches picked from the next 36 highest ranking players to fill out the 12-player All-Star roster.

This year’s All-Star Game is Wilson’s sixth . The Las Vegas Aces star served as an All-Star team captain in 2019 and 2022 and was the league’s leading vote-getter the past two seasons. Wilson was named Western Conference Player of the Month in both May and June, having averaged 26.5 points the first month (second in the league) and 27.2 points the second (first).

Gray is now a two-time All-Star , having made her first appearance on Team Wilson in 2023 alongside her former South Carolina teammate and fellow Gamecock alumna Boston. Gray is averaging 15.6 points, four rebounds and 2.1 assists per game with the Atlanta Dream.

Boston, the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year, will play in her second consecutive All-Star Game. She’s averaging 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.8 assists per game for the Indiana Fever.

The game will broadcast at 8:30 p.m. July 20 on ABC from the Footprint Center in Phoenix.
