Ryan Day has been impressive at Ohio State since taking over for Urban Meyer. Day is 56-8 over five seasons as the Buckeyes' head coach and has never lost more than two games in a season. He has also led the program to the College Football Playoff twice, including a national championship appearance in 2020.

However, the Buckeyes have not won the Big Ten since 2020 or beaten Michigan since 2019. Some experts believe Day is on the hot seat ahead of the 2024 season despite his impressive career record in Columbus.

Another coaching position that might become available after this season is the head coaching job for the Florida Gators. With back-to-back losing seasons, Billy Napier's job could be in jeopardy if the trend continues with another disappointing season.

Paul Finebaum was asked about the likelihood of Day coaching the Gators after the 2024 season. Finebaum was skeptical about the idea because he believes Day preferred staying in the Midwest or making the jump to the NFL.

"No, I don't," Finebaum said. "I think Ryan Day is somebody who is either suited for the Midwest or the NFL. I don't see a scenario where he would come south."

Finebaum concluded that he did not understand why Florida would want Day if he could not succeed at Ohio State. Ultimately, Finebaum believes to secure Day's future at Ohio State, he must do more than just beat Michigan. Day needs to demonstrate the program is a serious contender.

Finebaum also mentioned that Ohio State hired a new athletic director, Ross Bjork, who recently fired Jimbo Fisher at Texas A&M. He noted that Bjork is not afraid to let Day go if things are not moving in the right direction this season.
