State troopers have their hands full as the Ohio State Fair carries on with new safety measures , checking for unaccompanied minors.

Add rescuing dogs to that list.

Ohio State Highway Patrol posted a video on Facebook yesterday applauding Trooper Alec Kalis for rescuing a family's dog, Miley. Kalis noticed the fairgoers trying to rescue her as she seemed to have escaped to a bridge above the west side of the fairgrounds.

The incident, which occurred last Thursday, according to the date posted on the video footage, shows Kalis offering his assistance to the family by climbing the ladder onto the tracks and taking the time to search for the dog on the railroad tracks.

Kalis lured the dog with some potato chips and reunited Miley with her family. The trooper took a moment to pose for a picture with the grateful family in the end.

The post, which now has over 30,000 views, says, "troopers are always ready for the unexpected." Facebook users applauded Kalis for "going above and beyond" to help the family and not harm the dog during the rescue.

Kalis is part of the 168th academy class who graduated two years ago after 30 weeks of intense training.

He has been trained in crash investigation, criminal and traffic law, detection of impaired drivers, firearms, physical fitness, self-defense, and emergency vehicle operations. And perhaps he's now an expert on rescuing dogs.
