A major update has arrived on the future of former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton . Orton, who made headlines last week with his appearance on WWE Raw, confronted the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther.

At WWE SummerSlam, Gunther defeated Damian Priest with an assist from The Judgment Day’s leader, Finn Balor. Gunther, who was celebrating his win last week on WWE Raw, was confronted by former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton.

Gunther and Randy Orton, who have a history with each other, faced off in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament. Gunther won the match, but fans observed that one of Randy Orton’s shoulders was up during the pin. WWE acknowledged this error in the commentary during the broadcast and by Triple H.

Last week, Orton challenged Gunther to a World Heavyweight Championship match at Bash in Berlin. Gunther accepted the challenge, stating that he wanted to make his win record clean. Bash in Berlin will take place in Germany on August 31. However, a major update has arrived regarding Randy Orton’s future in WWE ahead of this significant match.

Randy Orton reportedly signs new WWE deal

Former WWE World Heavyweight Champion Randy Orton, who aims to capture the title for the 15th time, has signed a new five-year deal with the company. According to recent reports from Fightful Select, this contract will keep Orton with WWE until late 2029.

The reports stated that the reason why Randy Orton’s potential free agent didn’t come up. Many assumed that the promotion would extend his contract to cover the time he missed due to injury. Orton missed half of 2022 and nearly all of the following year because of back surgery.

Although WWE hasn’t confirmed a new contract, an executive explained that the promotion prefers to sign Orton to a new deal rather than extend the old one. They cited significant changes in guaranteed money, live event schedules, touring, international dates, media commitments, and other factors since 2019 as reasons for this approach.

The news of Randy Orton signing a new contract remains unofficial. However, recent reports suggest that Orton has agreed to a new deal that will keep him with WWE until 2029. If accurate, this would mean Orton will be 49 years old when the contract ends, aligning with his plan to continue wrestling until he turns 50.
