Newsom signs law to prevent forced outings of students
Governor Gavin Newsom signed a new bill into law that is being called The SAFETY Act, designed to protect students and employees from forced outings.It prohibits any school board policy, rule, or administrative regulation that requires forced outings of LGBTQ+ students.That includes preventing districts from telling parents about a student's sexual orientation, gender identity, preferred pronouns, or gender expression without the student's consent.PFLAG Fresno was one of the organizations to sign on in support of the bill. SACRAMENTO, Calif. — California’s homeowners insurance market is in crisis. What – or whom – to blame can devolve into finger-pointing. In a first-of-its-kind fight spilling out onto the pages of publicly available documents, the insurance industry is pointing at Consumer Watchdog, a consumer group that often intervenes in companies’ requests to raise rates, saying these interventions have stoked the current crisis. Consumer Watchdog says it's fighting to keep rates affordable for customers.

Alejandra Santamaria named president, CEO of LAist and Southern California Public Radio
Alejandra Santamaria, who most recently served as interim president, general manager and VP, director of sales for Univision Los Angeles, has been selected as new president and chief executive officer of Southern California Public Radio (SCPR) by the SCPR board of trustees. Santamaria will join SCPR and LAist in July and succeeds CEO Herb Scannell, who recently retired from the role. SCPR operates Los Angeles’ award-winning multi-platform local journalism leader LAist, which includes LAist 89.3, LAist.com and the podcast arm, LAist Studios. The organization also has found success creating community-facing experiential events.
