Now, Tam’s Burgers has become a household name across the country, demonstrating the influence of celebrity endorsement. The eatery’s star began to rise after its cameo in the music video for Kendrick Lamar’s song “Not Like Us.” Released on July 4, 2024, the video showcases Lamar and DJ Mustard enjoying a meal inside the restaurant. With the duo is dancer Storm DeBarge, who performs beside them. Muralist Mike Norice also painted a mural of Lamar on the restaurant’s wall.

“I painted it Monday and the process is very fast. I was here about 6 a.m. every morning from Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday,” Norice told ABC7.

The filming process was collaborative between the restaurant staff and the production crew. TMZ quotes Lauro Hernandez, Tam’s manager, as saying that after the video went viral, business at the restaurant increased by 30 to 40%. This sudden surge in popularity has brought more customers to Tam’s Burgers and introduced the local gem to a global audience.

Speaking to ABC7, Pasadena resident Blair Imani expressed her admiration for the mural and the restaurant, saying, “We saw the music video and we love Kendrick, so we just wanted to come to support the local business.” Richard Oliveira, a visitor from Houston, Texas, also highlighted the appeal of Tam’s, stating, “The food is dope, the mural is dope.”

In addition to its delicious burgers, Tam’s Burgers is an integral part of the neighborhood. The eatery provides employment opportunities for residents, supports local businesses, and hosts community events.
