Road Work Set For Jackson and Concord Townships
Several local roads will be shut down later this week in Jackson and Concord Townships. In Jackson Township, Pattison Street Extension will be closed for three to four weeks beginning Wednesday. The closure will run from Autumn Wood Drive to Gate Dancer/Old Ehrman Road in Cranberry Township. Access from Hartzell Road to Pattison will also be closed.
HOMER CITY POST 493 PLACES THREE ON ALL-SECTION SENIOR LEGION TEAM
The District 31 Senior Legion All-Section Team was released yesterday, and several Indiana County stars made the team. Homer City Post 493 infielder Braden Dunn and outfielder Rocco Cosentino both made first team. Dunn batted .407 and had an OPS of .985, with 22 Hits, 16 RBIs, and 17 runs. Cosentino batted .378 with an OPS of 1.138, 14 hits, 3 doubles, 4 triples, 15 RBIs and 13 runs scored.
TWO VEHICLES DAMAGED BY FIRE AT BLAIRSVILLE WALMART
A car was destroyed by a fire Tuesday afternoon in Burrell Township. Blairsville and Black Lick firefighters were summoned to the parking lot of the Blairsville Walmart around 11:49 a.m. for a car that was fully engulfed by flames. Ab Dettorre with the Blairsville Fire Department said that car was a total loss and one next to it sustained damage from melted plastic.

Pennsylvania’s two U.S. senators have sent a letter to the CEO of Norfolk Southern complaining about the company’s alleged failure to communicate readily with local emergency officials after a minor local derailment, about layoffs the company has made at the Juniata Locomotive Shop in a quest for efficiency and about assigning tasks there to workers in crafts that are not authorized to perform such work based on labor agreements.
BLAIRSVILLE MAYOR EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER BUILDING WITHOUT PERMITS
During the Blarisville Borough Council Meeting, Mayor Ronald Evanko expressed some concern that people were not getting proper permits for home construction projects. Evanko said during the meeting that he is seeing construction projects, like roofing, going on for one day, but they do not have the proper permits for it. PSP INVESTIGATING INCIDENT NEAR REGENCY MALL COMPLEX
State police are investigating an incident that occurred near the Regency Mall complex last night. The investigation started at 5:23 PM near Pompano Drive of White Township in The Grove apartment complex. Former Bedford DA has license suspended
The former Bedford County District Attorney, who is now an attorney with Fleming Law Office in Altoona, will have her law license suspended for two years effective Aug. 15. The move to suspend Lesley Rae Childers-Potts was announced Tuesday by the Disciplinary Board of the state Supreme Court and stems from four cases while Childers-Potts was acting as district attorney in Bedford County, court documents state.
JANE COLEMAN, CO-FOUNDER OF ACCENT FUELS, DIES AT THE AGE OF 86
One of the founders of a long-standing fuel sales business has passed away. Jane Coleman of Brush Valley founded Accent Fuels with her husband in 1964. She worked there for almost 50 years before Accent’s warehouse was destroyed by a fire in 2013. The business had been sold to their sons prior to the fire on West Indiana Street. The business is still in operation today.

Many sports, like football, wrestling and baseball (unless you play for Lilly’s City League team), get harder or impossible to participate in the older you get. Gerald L. Thomas
Gerald L. Thomas, 90, formerly of Thomasdale, died July 16, 2024 at Laurel View Village, Davidsville. He was born on March 4, 1934 in Thomas Mills, son of J. Wesley and Bessie M. (Weaver) Thomas. He was preceded in death by wife, Joyce E. (Stemmler) Thomas on April 5, 2024; brothers, Richard and R. Glenn Thomas and infant twin sisters Irene and Arlene. Survived by son, Douglas B. Thomas, married to the former Roberta A. Folton and sister-in-law Margaret of Davidsville. Gerald was a 1952 graduate of Conemaugh Township High School and a graduate of Pennsylvania Hospital School of Nursing, Philadelphia. He also received a degree as a Nurse Anesthetist from Reading Hospital. He retired from Mercy Hospital of Johnstown as a Nurse Anesthetist. He enjoyed working on and rebuilding any vehicle with an engine. He was a member of AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America), including charter member of the Flood City Region of AACA and was a member of Early V-8 Ford Club and EMMR (Eastern Museum of Motor Racing). At his request there will be no viewing or service. Interment at Thomas Mennonite Church Cemetery will be at the convenience of the family.
