    Pair of Calallen softball players earn national awards from MaxPreps

    Calallen infielder Alaunah Almaraz was named second-team All-American, and pitcher Jordan Thibodeaux earned honorable mention on the 2024 MaxPreps All-American softball team.

    Almaraz, the 2024 Caller-Times All-South Texas MVP, an all-region selection by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association and a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association Super Elite Team, hit .568 with 17 home runs and drove in 58 runs for the UIL Class 4A state champion Wildcats.

    Thibodeaux, a first-team pitcher on the Caller-Times All-South Texas team, a THSCA Super Elite Team selection and a first-team pick on the NFCA team, went 18-1 in the circle with a 0.93 earned run average and 153 strikeouts.

    Calallen outfielder Mia Flores and catcher Brookelynn Meador and also earned awards during the offseason, with Flores earning first-team honors by the NFCA and Meador earning second-team honors on the NFCA all-region team.

    Coach Teresa Lentz was named coach of the year by the THSCA after leading Calallen to its second consecutive championship.
