One of George Floyd’s killers, former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin, was transferred from a federal prison in Arizona to one in Texas, the Bureau of Prisons confirmed to the Associated Press on Tuesday. Chauvin, 48, was imprisoned in FCI Tucson in August 2022 to begin serving decades-long concurrent federal and state sentences for his involvement in Floyd’s May 2020 death. The Bureau of Prisons did not offer an explanation for Chauvin’s move, which comes nearly nine months after he was stabbed 22 times with an improvised knife by a fellow prisoner. Officials have not confirmed whether the attack was related to Chauvin’s relocation. Chauvin, who kneeled on Floyd’s neck as he struggled to breathe, is one of four Minneapolis officers convicted in the matter. Another, Thomas Lane, 41, was separately released from federal prison in Colorado on Tuesday. An El Monte man faces a series of federal charges in connection with his attempts to ship 2,205 pounds of methamphetamine to Australia in 2023, the Justice Department announced Friday.  Jing Tang Li, 32, is charged with distribution of and possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute controlled substances, exportation of controlled substances, and attempt and conspiracy to export controlled substances. Over an 11-month period in 2023, U.S. customs officers inspected seven shipments headed to Australia and found methamphetamine embedded in products falsely labeled as carpets and textiles, furniture, wheel hub testing equipment, and a casting machine. The listed companies that were shipping the "products" were fake businesses. Law enforcement eventually traced Li to the shipments and arrested him Thursday driving near a South El Monte warehouse where a robbery was reported during the early morning of August 8.  In that warehouse, law enforcement found shipping labels, scales, and a package containing methamphetamine. If convicted, Li would face a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years in federal prison and a statutory maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

A man out on probation for drug charges less than a year ago and a woman from Douglas were recently arrested following a search at a local apartment. On August 7, 2024, at around 1:00 PM, Detectives from the Coffee County Sheriff's Office Drug Unit were conducting a proactive narcotics patrol in Douglas. During their patrol, a detective spotted 30-year-old Christopher Lamar Hawkins, who had outstanding warrants for fleeing police and methamphetamine possession, driving a white 2021 Kia Sorento. Hawkins was stopped in front of apartment 203/204 on N Wheeler Ave, where two detectives approached him. Breanna Henderson, 33, then came out of apartment 203 to "investigate what was going on with Hawkins" and appeared to whisper with Hawkins during his arrest. The report states that Henderson, who temporarily lived with Hawkins, began whispering with him "presumably about nefarious activities due to Hawkins's previous history with drug distribution and evading law enforcement."
