Raleigh man wins big with $150K Powerball prize
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) – A Raleigh man tried his luck on a $3 Powerball ticket and came away with a $150,000 prize. William Farr purchased his lucky Quick Pick ticket from Quality Mart on Chapel Hill Road in Raleigh. He matched the numbers on four white balls and the red Powerball in the April 6 drawing to win $50,000. Because he bought a Power Play ticket, his prize tripled to $150,000 when the 3X multiplier hit.

Construction begins on newest downtown Raleigh development
RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Kane Realty announced construction has begun on a new mixed-use development in the West End neighborhood of downtown Raleigh. Oldham & Worth is Kane Realty’s second mixed-use residential project in the West End neighborhood. Located at the corner of W. Cabarrus Street and S. West Street the project will feature five stories of upscale apartments, first-class amenities and 4,000 square feet of ground-floor retail space. There will also be more than 250 apartment units.

Franklin Street Starbucks Temporarily Closed; New Location to Open Friday
The Starbucks location at 103 East Franklin Street temporarily closed its doors Sunday as the business moves to a larger storefront across the street. Located underneath Top of the Hill Restaurant & Brewery at 100 East Franklin Street, the new location is tentatively set to open Friday at 6 a.m, ahead of the new UNC school year. Renovations for the space began in 2019, which was previously occupied by Medici, a Neapolitan-style pizza restaurant.
Vehicle submerged in water after crash on Durham Chapel Hill Boulevard
The Durham Police responded to a crash on Monday afternoon that resulted in a vehicle being submerged in water near Garrett Road. At around 3:30 p.m., officers arrived at the scene of a vehicle crash in the 4000 block of Durham Chapel Hill Boulevard, where at least one vehicle was found submerged in water.

The Green Eyeshade Awards, the nation’s oldest regional journalism contest, recognized Capitol Broadcasting Company’s editorial cartoonist Dennis Draughon for outstanding visual commentary. The Society of Professional Journalists annually honors outstanding work by Southern journalists. Draughon placed third in editorial cartoons, in the Green Eyeshade’s graphic division.
