Iowa National Guard unit will return 150 soldiers back from Middle East deployment
On Friday, the Des Moines Airbase hosted a special “welcome home” ceremony for a group of National Guard soldiers returning from a year-long deployment in the Middle East. The federal government activated the 831st Engineer Vertical Construction Company (EVCC) to support U.S. Central Command in a territory encompassing 27 countries. This encompassed Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the UAE.
Three People Arrested for Assault in Red Oak
(Red Oak) Three people face assault charges following an incident in Red Oak. According to the press release, the charges stem from an incident in the 1800 block of N. 4th Street on Saturday night. As a result of the investigation, Officers arrested 35-year-old Micaela Morales and 35-year-old Douglas Walter Penry, both from Stanton, and 40-year-old Arthur Finton McCarthy of Ankeny.
Motorcycle Crash in Council Bluffs Claims One Life
(Council Bluffs) A motorcycle driver died from injuries suffered in a crash in Council Bluffs on Saturday. Council Bluffs Police say the accident happened around 3:04 p.m. at S. 17th and 2nd Avenue. The motorcycle struck the passenger side of a truck at the intersection. Council Bluffs Fire and Rescue, along with Council Bluffs Police, arrived at the location, and the driver of the motorcycle was transported to UNMC, where he has since passed away from the injuries he sustained from the accident. Authorities did not release the name.

The Adel Parks and Recreation is holding a relaxing evening to watch a movie on Friday. The Parks & Rec is inviting people to the Island Park Campground, 2400 Nantucket Road, in Adel this coming Friday as they will be showing the movie Wonka. Des Moines Police Investigating City's 11ths Traffic Death This Year
(Des Moines, IA) -- The Des Moines Police Department is investigating the city's eleventh traffic related death of the year. Police say officers responded to the report of the crash a little after 8:30 Saturday night at the intersection of 2nd Avenue and Holcomb Avenue. Investigators say officers found several people hurt at the scene, including one person who was pronounced dead.

The Nov. 6, 1978, edition of the Register’s sister afternoon paper, the Des Moines Tribune, reports on the Nov. 5 fire in the Younkers store at Merle Hay Mall, which kills 10 employees.
