Genoa, Nev. — There was a report of traffic congestion up at Zephyr Cove Resort around 5:45 a.m. today. It cleared up pretty quick, but there will be traffic and crowds at the Lake today as people set up for a day at the beach and an evening watching fireworks.
Lane reductions near Pleasant Valley start Monday
Lane reductions will begin Monday, July 8 on Alternate U.S. 395 in Washoe City as the Nevada Department of Transportation repaves the roadway. Through July 15, intermittent single lane closures will take place on Alternate U.S. 395 between Pagni Lane and the Interstate 580 interchange in the Bowers Mansion area. One lane will remain open in each direction at all times.
Supervisors appoint Bruketta, review jail stats, airport plan
Starting Aug. 5, Carson City will have a new Justice of the Peace in Justice and Municipal Court Department 2 – Melanie Bruketta. Wednesday, the Carson City Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a temporary appointment of Bruketta effective Aug. 5 through Jan. 5, 2025, until Bruketta’s new full term begins.

TRUCKEE, CA —The winter of 2022-23 was one for the record books, and all that snow helped make for a great ski season, filled our lakes, and brought about a great summer wildflower show. But also left Truckee Donner Land Trust with a little cleanup last summer. On Our Johnson Canyon property, the roughly double average snowfall left three foot bridges and one boardwalk crushed along the Donner Lake Rim Trail. But thanks to a grant from Northstar California supported by Vail EpicPromise, repairs were completed last fall.
Election of three Lake Tahoe Unified School District Trustee Seats announced
SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Board approved the election for three open seats on the Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education during the June 27 meeting. The seats are currently held by Bonnie Turnbull (Area 3), Valerie Mansfield (Area 4), and Larry Reilly (Area 1). The election will be held on November 5, 2024. Truckee’s The Aspen Collective on building fun and inclusive community run for youth by youth
The challenges of being a teenage musician are the same now as they have been for decades – most venues have little interest in performers whose members and friends are too young to buy drinks, events tend to be run by adult professionals who are less than entertained by youthful passion that might outsize talent, lots of teens just don’t have the money to afford professional equipment and spaces. So lots of shows for young bands tend to be in fly by night style – at backyard parties and such – which might be fun, but aren’t the most sustainable or safe model.
Fire Restrictions in Effect in Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District
Fire restrictions are in effect in the Truckee Meadows Fire Protection District started on Tuesday, July 2, and will be in effect until further notice. According to Truckee Meadows Fire & Rescue, all outdoor recreational and cooking fires, campfires and bonfires are banned, except for propane, electric and pellet-fueled barbecues.
Truckee Donner PUD Board adopts annual wildfire mitigation plan
TRUCKEE, Calif. – At Truckee Donner Public Utility District’s June board of directors meeting, the board adopted the agency’s annual Wildfire Mitigation Plan, approved the audited financial report for fiscal year 2023, approved contracts needed to deliver on crucial capital projects and heard a workshop presentation from the Northern California Power Agency on the state’s energy policy.
