Motorists used to traveling east over the Steels Corners bridge will have to find an alternate route starting July 15.

According to the Summit County Engineer's office, the bridge, which goes over Mud Brook and is west of the state Route 8 interchange on the border of Stow and Cuyahoga Falls, will be closed to eastbound traffic 90 days for numerous renovations, including:

    • Replacing the bridge expansion joints.
    • Overlaying the bridge deck with concrete.
    • Replacing the approach guardrail.

The cost is estimated at a little more than $1 million, according to the engineer's office. The engineer's office was given a Local Major Bridge Program grant for up to $1 million toward construction costs.

The project will maintain traffic westbound at all times on East Steels Corners Road, and the eastbound traffic will be detoured north to Seasons Road, said Summit County Engineer Alan Brubaker. Access to Route 8 south can also be reached via Wyoga Lake and Graham roads.

Eastbound traffic will continue to have access to Wyndham Ridge Drive, and access to homes and businesses will be maintained during this work, Brubaker said.

The detour route will be posted.

The Steels Corners Bridge over Mud Brook is Summit County's longest bridge, stretching more than 1,000 feet, according to the Summit County Engineer's office.
