A 40-year-old man has been sentenced to over 28 years in prison for distributing significant amounts of fentanyl and other controlled substances to dealers in the Middle Georgia region. Authorities revealed that investigators uncovered evidence linking the drugs provided by the defendant, 40-year-old Lagary Williams, also known as "Frog," from Atlanta, to a fatal overdose.

Court records indicate that in July 2020, agents from the DEA Macon Resident Office (MRO), the Ocmulgee Drug Task Force (ODTF), and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) received credible and reliable intelligence from several confidential informants about illegal drug activities in the Milledgeville area.

Another individual involved in the case, Damon Hayes, was identified as a multi-kilogram dealer of methamphetamine, powder cocaine, and crack cocaine, with Williams being his primary supplier.

Through surveillance operations, agents observed Hayes picking up large quantities of drugs from Williams' luxury high-rise apartment in downtown Atlanta.

During the investigation, wiretap recordings captured conversations between Williams and another distributor discussing a fatal overdose caused by fentanyl supplied by Williams. In one of these recordings, played during the sentencing hearing, Williams was heard laughing and saying, "You got one under your belt, boy," referring to the victim's death from fentanyl poisoning. Williams also made remarks indicating he knew the fentanyl he was distributing was extremely potent.

On September 10, 2021, after wiretap intercepts suggested that Hayes was traveling to Atlanta for a drug resupply from Williams, a federal search warrant was executed at Williams' apartment, authorized by the Northern District of Georgia.

When agents arrived, Williams and another individual attempted to flee by jumping off the apartment's balcony but were both apprehended shortly afterward.

Inside the apartment, agents seized 2.5 kilograms of fentanyl, one kilogram of methamphetamine, two kilograms of cocaine, about 50 grams of crack cocaine, approximately seven pounds of marijuana, a Glock 19 9mm pistol, and a Ruger model 57 handgund.

Williams pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances on Oct. 30, 2023, and then sentenced to 340 months in prison and five years of supervised release on August 8.
