KSR Today: Avoiding The Wall at SEC Media Days
By Nick Roush,
We have reached day three in Dallas, officially the midway point of SEC Media Days. For the KSR crew, it means one of a few things.
It’s the final night for hijinx out on the town, which means many of your favorite media members will be getting after it and singing some tunes at karaoke. That should be delightful and produce some hilarious stories worth sharing on KSBoard. It’s not the greatest challenge of the day.
Today is all about avoiding the wall. For about 12 hours a day, we’re staring at a computer screen while coaches get ushered in and out of an enormous hotel ballroom. In between typing, we’re delivering takes on Radio Row. It’s not exactly a day in the coal mines, but it adds up and the brain synapses are not quite firing on all cylinders. Last year, I smacked that wall directly in the face and passed out in the middle of Hugh Freeze’s boring diatribe. Will I survive this year or fake it till I make it? Let’s rip it.
Today’s also a big day to chat it up with talking heads on Radio Row. We’ll be catching up with That SEC Podcast, a couple of ESPN personalities, and friends from the On3 network. It will be delightful. Make sure you’re following along on the KSR YouTube Channel .
KSR’s coverage at media days is presented by the team at Friends of Coal. Friends of Coal is dedicated to informing and educating Kentucky citizens about the coal industry and its vital role in the state’s future. They provide a united voice for an industry that has been and remains a critical economic contributor to Kentucky. By working together, they can provide good jobs and benefits for future generations. Coal is RESILIENT, RELIABLE, and AFFORDABLE .
Friends of Coal is a volunteer organization. All are invited to be a part of the organization, which consists of proud Kentuckians as well as residents from beyond our borders. Head to friendsofcoalkentucky.org to learn more.
USA Basketball in Action
Team USA only has three more tune-ups before they begin their quest for gold at the Paris Olympics. This afternoon they’ll go toe-to-toe with the best in the NBA. Nikola Jokic and the Serbian national team will match up with a couple of former Kentucky Wildcats on Team USA in Abu Dhabi. The action begins at Noon EST on FS1.
Chris Lewis Sidelined by Cancer
In his first year of football outside of Lexington, Chris Lewis became a star at Troy by catching a Sun Belt-best 10 touchdown passes. Sadly, the former Kentucky Wildcat will not be running it back in 2024.
Lewis tells Pete Thamel he will spend the season as a student assistant after undergoing surgery and treatment for osteosarcoma (aka bone cancer). Cancer is the worst. If you’d like to learn more and help him in his fight, you can find more details on Lewis’ GoFundMe page .
I Spoke with Mark Pope
And it was a disaster, well at least behind the scenes. We had a smorgasbord of technical difficulties before and during the conversation with the Kentucky basketball coach. Fortunately, it actually worked and Mark Pope had a few enlightening things to say about how his Wildcats are progressing this summer. You can hear the entire Q&A in the second hour of today’s Kentucky Roll Call podcast .
TBT Takeover at KSBar
Mark Pope’s Kentucky basketball team spent Tuesday afternoon sharing the hardwood with some former Wildcats. Before La Familia tips off in the TBT this Friday at Rupp Arena , the team is kicking it with fans at KSBar and Grille . They will be in the house from 10-Noon and speaking with the KSR audience on-air throughout the show. You don’t want to miss it.
