Dallas Cowboys Urged To Pursue Intriguing Wide Receiver Trade

One Dallas Cowboys wide receiver has been the center of attention this offseason in the form of CeeDee Lamb. However, the team has been encouraged to make the move of another that might give Lamb a break from the spotlight.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox feels that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones should be “very interested” in re-acquiring wide receiver Cedrick Wilson, who has ended up with the New Orleans Saints for at least the summer and previously played for Dallas from 2019 through 2021.

“If the Saints deem Wilson expendable by the end of camp, they could look to acquire some draft capital and $1.4 million in 2024 cap space by trading him,” Knox wrote. “If that happens, Dallas should be very interested.”

Wilson’s best season came with the Cowboys in 2021. In that year, he hauled in 45 catches for 602 yards and six touchdowns.

With Lamb in a holdout, Wilson’s addition would bolster the wide receiver room. This would be useful if Wilson elects to continue his holdout into the regular season.

If nothing else, it would remind Lamb that Jones has the ultimate say in what happens to him, including if the wide receiver can remain in his current home.

Dallas Cowboys encouraged to avoid nostalgia-fueled mistake regarding potential trade

The Cowboys have a financial incentive to add Wilson.

If they can put even one percent more fear into the team’s No. 1 receiver, they can lower the price of Lamb’s salary. As such, adding Wilson could pay for itself in the eyes of the Cowboys. However, they need to make sure they add him for the correct price.

Wilson is several years removed from his best year. Last year, he earned just under 300 yards. Taking that into consideration, Wilson could be a risky investment and proportionately riskier the higher the price.

Nostalgia for the receiver might play a factor in how the fans gauge the receiver’s prospects. However, Jones would be smart to put that aside. This would mean offering no more than a day-three pick to the Saints in exchange for Wilson.

Dalla has already has made a nostalgia-fueled move to bring back Ezekiel Elliott. Would bringing back another former member of the team move the needle? If it does, one might question why the Cowboys elected to move on in the first place.

Either way, the goal for Jones is to make the best moves. Additionally, those moves need to set the team up for success over the long haul.

Could Jones be convinced that adding another former Dak Prescott teammate back to the fold would help the Cowboys in 2024?
