The Dallas Cowboys are expected to reach the finish line on a new contract for wide receiver CeeDee Lamb at some point this summer, but the journey itself could get a bit bumpy.

In a mailbag column published on June 26, SI.com's Albert Breer was asked whether the Cowboys would reach a deal with Lamb or quarterback Dak Prescott. Breer predicted that the Cowboys and Lamb would eventually find common ground on a new contract -- but said it could get "nasty" first.

"I think CeeDee Lamb’s situation might have the potential to get the nastiest this summer, and I also see him as the most likely of the three (if we include Micah Parsons) to get extended first," Breer wrote. "He’s in a contract year. His market is fairly straight-forward. Regardless of what the Dallas Cowboys do at quarterback going forward, they’re going to need a guy like him on the perimeter."

The situation could already be going south. Calvin Watkins of The Dallas Morning News reported that Lamb could be planning to skip training camp if he doesn't have a new contract.

"For the second consecutive year, there’s a possibility a key starter will hold out of training camp," Watkins wrote. "Lamb missed the entire offseason program and is expected to miss training camp if he doesn’t get a new deal."
