    Dallastown area man charged with shooting trooper in Lancaster as officers searched units

    A Dallastown man has been charged with shooting a Pennsylvania State Police corporal on Wednesday as law enforcement executed a search warrant in Lancaster city, according to court records and a news release.

    Alfredo Maldonado-Gonzalez, 41, of the 500 block of East Maple Street in Dallastown has been charged with attempted criminal homicide of a law enforcement officer, aggravated assault, assault on law enforcement, discharge of a firearm into an occupied structure, possession of a firearm prohibited, recklessly endangering another person and receiving stolen property, court records and the release state.

    He was denied bail and is being held in Lancaster County Prison, according to online court records.

    The trooper, who suffered an injury to the arm, remains in Lancaster General Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery, spokesman Trooper James Grothey said on Thursday.

    Maldonado-Gonzalez has a driver's license with a Dallastown address, Grothey said. However, the suspect currently has no fixed address.

    Law enforcement execute a search warrant in robbery investigation

    Members of the Lancaster Criminal Investigation Unit, patrol, and the Pennsylvania State Police Emergency Response Team were executing a search warrant in the 600 block of East Fulton Street on Wednesday when the shooting happened, the news release states. It pertained to a robbery investigation.

    Troopers announced their presence and intentions to execute the search warrant, which pertained to a robbery investigation, on multiple storage units, the release states.

    As law enforcement began to use tools to breach the locked storage units, gunshots rang out from inside of one, the release states.

    A corporal was hit in the arm by a bullet, the release states.

    Law enforcement continued to breach the storage units and took Maldonado-Gonzalez into custody. Police found a stolen handgun, which authorities believe he used in the shooting, the release states.

    Maldonado-Gonzalez is not permitted to have a firearm because of a prior conviction, an affidavit of probable cause states.

    Troopers did not fire their weapons during the incident, the affidavit states.

    Suspect's girlfriend was on Facetime with him when she heard shots

    State police interviewed Maldonado-Gonzalez's girlfriend who was on Facetime with him when law enforcement were serving the search warrant, the affidavit of probable cause states.

    She heard what she thought was a chainsaw, and her boyfriend said: "I'm in here. I'm in here," the affidavit states.

    The girlfriend told investigators she saw two flashes and heard what she believed were two gunshots, the affidavit states. The video then disconnected.

    Law enforcement found seven, 9-millimeter shell casings in the area where Maldonado-Gonzalez was taken into custody, the affidavit states. The storage units had multiple bullet holes.
