On March 5 at approximately 8:35 a.m., troopers from the Maryland State Police Leonardtown Barrack responded to Great Mills Road at East Run Drive in Lexington Park for the report of a two-vehicle crash with injuries.

According to a state police press release, troopers and other emergency services personnel arrived to find the passenger of one of the vehicles in serious condition. Emergency medical personnel rendered aid on the scene.

Joseph Leroy Greer, 87, of Dameron was transported by ambulance to MedStar St. Mary’s Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mary Nell Greer, 87 of Dameron.

The state police press release said Greer’s vehicle was at fault.

“The drivers of both vehicles sustained non life-threatening injuries,” the press release stated.

Joseph Greer was identified by Brinsfield Funeral Home as a Charles County native, an Air Force veteran and 30-year employee of the Bureau of Navy Personnel. Greer later worked for the St. Mary’s County Public Works Department. He also was a volunteer with the Ridge Volunteer Rescue Squad.

The crash investigation is ongoing. Anyone who has any information regarding the incident, is asked to contact Trooper Robert Backus at robert.backus@maryland.gov and reference 24-MSP-007194. Those with information can also contact the Leonardtown barrack duty officer at 301-475-8955, ext. 0, to report any information.
