School Board Approve Paying Unpaid Student Meals Debts
During the June 17 Hudson School Board meeting, the Board was presented with a request for the School District to pay the unpaid student meals debts for the school year. “The School Board has a policy on meal charging – Policy EFAA. Parents/ Guardians are responsible for providing their students with meals for the day or providing funds for the students to purchase meals,” Food Service Director, Karen Atherton, wrote in a memo to the School Board. “They are encouraged to pay into accounts for those students on a monthly basis and pay in advance so that funds can be available on those students’ accounts as they come through the lunch lines.”
UNH to cut English/journalism major amid financial struggles and declining enrollment
The University of New Hampshire (UNH) plans to end its English/ journalism major as journalism cuts impact higher education. Faculty members have voted to eliminate the current English/journalism major following a decline in enrollment. A school administrator said the major could be eliminated as early as the 2025-2026 academic year following a review by the school's provost office and board of trustees.
Hudson Post 48 Prep Finish Week Two With 5-2 Record Wins
Last week, Hudson’s American Legion Prep team concluded their June schedule with matchups in Rochester, Salem, and home against Portsmouth. Post 48 began their week by splitting a doubleheader in Rochester with a 7-3 win in game one and a 9-2 loss in game two, then played at Michele Park on Thursday in what was supposed to be a doubleheader but saw game two rained out and lost to Post 63 Gold 6-3. They then returned home for the first time since beating Londonderry 11-1 and beat Portsmouth 9-3 from the friendly confines of Alvirne.
Nashua Post 3 downs Salem
Jayce Martinez collected three hits to lead the Nashua Post 3 Senior team to a 7-1 triumph over Salem’s Post 63 Thursday night in Salem. Jake O’Connor tossed three innings of scoreless relief for Nashua. He gave up one hit and struck out five. Austin Suchecki and Ryan Haskell each added two hits for Nashua.
Protestors call for university system to drop charges against arrested UNH students
Students at the University of New Hampshire protested Friday morning outside a university system board meeting, calling for the university administration to drop charges against 11 students arrested during a pro-Palestine protest in May. Demonstrators stood outside the Memorial Union Building’s Strafford Room while the meeting was in session, chanting “drop the charges and divest.”’
School Board Begin To Look At Different Options For Moose Hill
The School District discussed different preliminary options on how to move forward with the space needs issues at Moose Hill during the June 18 meeting. In March, voters rejected two different warrant articles to allow for more space at Moose Hill and to address space needs at the school and another project to allow for full day kindergarten in Londonderry.
Preschoolers Display Artistic Talents at Haverhill Library
The work of the blossoming artists (pun intended) at Marigold Montessori Preschool will be on display this summer for all to see. During the school year, with the help of the Haverhill Cultural Council, students explored the ways artists from all over the world used their artistic voices to connect to the world around. Using those lessons, they crafted their art from this inspiration to find and share their unique creative voice with their community.
