Eggspectation Now Aiming For Fall Opening

DMV Empanadas Opens Next Week
DMV Empanadas at 560 N. Frederick Ave. in the Gaithersburg Square shopping center has announced it will hold its soft opening on Monday, July 29. DMV Empanadas was previously located at 113 E Diamond Ave in Olde Towne Gaithersburg. The restaurant features over 25 flavors of empanadas, including bacon & cheese, cheeseburger, and Old Bay shrimp. According to an Instagram post, the restaurant will also servce Chicken Milanese, and Broaster Chicken, and Lomo Saltado.
Visitors Advised to Use Caution After Signs of Microcystin Are Reported at Local Lakes
Montgomery Parks urges patrons to use caution when recreating on or near Lake Needwood and Lake Frank located within Rock Creek Regional Park due to potential risks associated with high levels of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria). Water samples from both lakes are currently being evaluated by the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) to determine if levels are harmful. Visual indicators including discolored water and algal mats have been observed in portions of both lakes. Harmful Algal Blooms (HABs) can produce dangerous levels of toxic microcystin.
DMV’s First Torchy’s Tacos Adds Exterior Signage As it Moves Closer Towards Opening
Torchy’s Tacos has installed permanent signage at its first DMV restaurant, which will be located at 12266 Rockville Pike in Federal Plaza. Last September we let you know that Texas-based Torchy’s Tacos is coming to 12266 Rockville Pike in Federal Plaza, taking over part of the space that was recently home to Chuy’s and previously home to Ruby Tuesday. The restaurant had its hearing for its alcohol license back on Thursday, February 1st at 11:30am, so that hurdle has been cleared.

Update on Torchy's Tacos in Rockville (Photos)
Permanent lighted signage has been installed at Torchy's Tacos at 12266-A Rockville Pike at Federal Plaza in Rockville. Last night, it was already lit up. It's not quite as large and prominent as former tenant Chuy's' was when viewed from the Pike, but includes a sharp rendering of the Mexican chain's devilish mascot.
New 9.54 Acre Park is Not Yet Open, City Officials Say
The City of Gaithersburg is in the process of completing the 9.54-acre Pleasant View Park at 10901 Darnestown Rd. with parking, community gardens, a bicycle skills course (pump track), open space, pavilions, a playground, fitness pods, and a welcome plaza. Shoshanna Shapiro, owner of Frederick, Maryland-based luxury interior design studio Sho and Co., transformed a formal dining room in Rockville into a multifunctional pantry because, she says client Beth Higgins “loves to feed the world.” Beth and her husband, Tim, have four kids—two in their teens, two in their early 20s—and they’d been using the dining room as a catchall for shelf-stable goods for school snacks and lunches. The kitchen, slightly wider than a galley but not large enough for an island, was out of the question for food prep and storage, so Shapiro suggested putting the dining room to better use.

Amazon Fresh Gaithersburg store posts opening date
Amazon has posted the opening date for its Amazon Fresh grocery store at 15790 Shady Grove Road at the 270 Center, on the border of Rockville and Gaithersburg. The long-delayed but highly-anticipated store will open at 8:00 AM sharp on August 8, 2024, according to the banner that has just been posted on the storefront. A grand opening of this supermarket has been years in the making, and the process has taken almost as many twists and turns as the 2024 presidential race.

Mimi’s Handmade Ice Cream is Coming to Clarksburg
Mimi’s Handmade ice cream is coming to Clarksburg Premium Outlets, taking over the location that was recently home to Melt Cafe and Gelato Bar next to Starbucks. This will be Mimi’s Handmade’s fifth location overall and third in Montgomery County with current locations in Rockville’s Federal Plaza and inside The Heights Food Hall in Chevy Chase. An opening date is not yet available for the Clarksburg Outlets location, but signage is now up in the windows of the store (photo below).
Montgomery Parks offers new Adaptive Mountain Biking Program
The program, tailored for individuals with disabilities, takes place August 4, 2024. WHEATON, Md. – Montgomery Parks is offering a new Adaptive Mountain Biking Program, designed exclusively for individuals with disabilities to experience the thrill of mountain biking. The free program takes place Sunday, August 4, 2024, 10 a.m.–2:30 p.m. at Wheaton Regional Park. Rides are offered in 90-minute time slots. Three certified adaptive mountain bike leaders will instruct and assist riders and experienced mountain bikers will ride alongside all participants. The program is open to people age 16 and older and advanced registration is required.
