FREDERICK, Md. ( DC News Now ) — Vendors will fill up the Carroll Creek area Saturday for the second annual Black Frederick Festival. Organizers said they plan on bringing some new components to this year’s event.

“We’ve been talking about this for a while because we are getting to bring our culture down on the creek,” said Co-Organizer Tia Hall-Brown.

Vendors will be ready to showcase their businesses and celebrate each other’s culture. This year, the festival will also be celebrating and bringing D.C.’s Go-Go culture to Frederick.

“We want to celebrate everyone and we’re trying to do that through music,” Brown said. “We know Go-Go is a part of the DNA of the DMV, so we’re bringing Go-Go for the first time to Carroll Creek.”

The festival will also shine a spotlight on other organizations catering to Black mental health.

Charlene Roberts works with the Wholeheartedly Resource Center and will be using the festival to provide information on how to handle grief in the black community.

“What we want to do is be able to help you get through those kinds of situations and come out on the other side a better, more complete person, and not walk with those scars for years,” Roberts said.

Brown hopes everyone who attends walks away feeling appreciated and celebrated.

“It’s really uplifting the local small business community and organizations around town that really need recognition,” Brown said.

The Black Frederick Festival will kick off at 11 a.m.
