WASHINGTON ( DC News Now ) — While a lot of people were hunkered down inside with air conditioning on Wednesday, others spent the day outdoors in the heat.

Many took advantage of the water feature at Percy Plaza along the Georgetown Waterfront trying to stay cool amid the triple-digit feels-like temperatures.

“When you thought we finally made it after a brutal, brutal July, it’s finally cooling off, and now we’re back again in 100-degree heat. Mentally, it’s taking a bit of a toll,” said Andrew Glenn.

Physically, the heat took a toll on mechanic Brian Suarez at Metro Motor.

“We never slow down here,” Suarez said.

The fans are constantly running, but air conditioning isn’t feasible in a garage.

“It’s 100 degrees out here but then the cars are even hotter which makes the shop even hotter,” Suarez said. “We probably drink a gallon and a half of water a day. If it gets real hot we’ll go up front, sit in the A/C a little bit, cool off.”

New York Cleaners, while a job inside, also heats up quickly.

“There’s no choice. You need to work,” said manager Osra Noble.

But when it’s super hot, the presses inside get turned off early.

“I’m from the Caribbean, so I’m used to hot weather,” Noble said.

Whether or not they’re used to it, a lot of people are ready to be done with this summer’s extreme heat.

“Trying to get back to the cooler temperatures hopefully in the next week or so,” Glenn said.
