Franciscan Health Dyer, Olympia Fields named Bariatric Centers of Excellence by Optum
Franciscan Health Dyer and Franciscan Health Olympia Fields were both recently named Bariatric Centers of Excellence (COE) by Optum. Bariatric departments belonging to the Optum bariatric COE program perform more successful bariatric procedures than many other facilities nearby. The Optum COEs also have fewer complications and readmissions, with 15% lower mortality rates, 16% lower inpatient hospital readmission, 12% lower reoperation rate for bariatric procedures and $4,239 lower average cost per surgical episode.

Fireworks cause injuries and damage in Lake County town of Griffith
Griffith, Ind. (WNDU) - A private fireworks show in Griffith, Ind. on Saturday night, June 29, created some serious problems. Amtrak to repair platform at Rensselaer station
RENSSELAER — As promised to Rensselaer Mayor Jeff Phillips and the city, Amtrak will begin work on its Rensselaer station platform and lighting beginning Monday, July 8. Phillips and the city council have been working with Amtrak to shore up the station’s platform, which has several areas where the cement is cracking or lost chunks of concrete. Phillips said the station received damage in December of 2017 when a wheel broke off a train car and slammed into the platform in front of the station.
Rotary Ramble to pound pavement on Aug. 10
DeMOTTE – The 43rd annual Rotary Ramble 5K race will kick off at 8 a.m., CST, on Saturday, Aug. 10. Between 500 and 600 runners and walkers are expected for the race. The race is most notable for its “trophies” of authentic wooden shoes, which are given to the top three male and female overall winners as well as the top three finishers in each age and special run or walk division. Raffle prizes will also be awarded before the results.

Crown Point resident expresses concern over fireworks debris
Stephanie Watkins appeared before the Crown Point City Council on Monday holding a box filled with burnt mortar and shrapnel as a result of a neighbor’s fireworks display. Watkins said the burning embers were deposited on her property on South Court Street as a result of a neighbor’s fireworks display on June 29. She expressed concern over prolonged noise and potential damage to her home and others in the neighborhood, as well as injuries that could occur — not unlike the incident that occurred in the 900 Block of North Arbogast Street in Griffith that same day when four homes were damaged and seven people were hurt.

Well I’m still trying to get used to turning things in to the editor on Fridays. We will get there because you just need to change your focus a bit. I consider myself blessed that I even have such a thing as focus. It does get difficult switching from what you are used to another way because we humans resist change and our minds and our bodies just normally fight it.
