Santa Rosa Takes First Step in New Tobacco Regulations
The Santa Rosa City Council has approved new regulations for tobacco retailers. It bans the sale of flavored tobacco products and electronic smoking devices, sets a minimum pack price of $10, and prohibits retailers from offering coupons or discounts. It also prohibits local retailers from selling tobacco products online. Retailers will also have to obtain a license from the city. Additionally, no new tobacco retailers will be allowed within 600 feet of schools, parks and other youth-oriented areas. Also, licensed retailers relocating their business can’t transfer their license if the new location falls within the 600-foot buffer zone. A second formal vote is scheduled for next month. Licensing and enforcement will start in January.

Flora Fire Now 75-Percent Contained While a Suspect has Been Arrested for the Blaze
A Redding-area man has been arrested in connection with Wednesday’s Flora Fire outside Healdsburg and Windsor. Cal Fire the fire started after he drove his car 4 miles without a right front tire. 44-year-old Justin Roy Jones of Anderson started the fire on Chalk Hill Road east of Healdsburg. The friction caused sparks that ignited three separate fires that eventually cpmbined into the Flora Fire burning about 36 acres. It is 75-percent contained. Jones was booked into the Sonoma County Jail around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. Jones is one of several arrests related to wildfires in what’s become a dangerous fire year.
