Once upon a time in the city of Oakland, California a fairytale home straight from a movie popped up on the market, and home lovers from around the world fell in love. When you picture this home imagine a yard full of frogs, fairies, gargoyles, and more that bring this storybook house to life. From the outside, the picturesque home feels as though you could walk up to the door knock twice and the seven dwarves would answer and show you around the humble abode.

    The History of Storybook Style

Characterized by sloping roofs, turrets, and other eclectic characteristics, inhabiting one will make you feel like the queen of your block. Many people claim that this style originated in the European countryside and made its way to America in the 1920s by way of Hollywood. Some people even claim the style grew in popularity after Walt Disney (who drove an ambulance for the Red Cross Ambulance Corps in Europe years prior) built sets inspired by his European travels.

Storybook-style homes were cottage core before cottage core even existed and this home is proof of that.

    The Interior

Upon entering this two-bedroom two-bathroom abode guests are met with a large arched glass window , an impressive stone fireplace that is thought to be original to the house, and a large seating area perfect for entertaining. To the right is another sitting room and a small door leads guests to the master bedroom and bathroom equipped with wood paneling , a large open shower, and vintage maroon tiles.

Walk out of the bedroom and you'll find the entry to the basement floor that has wood paneling throughout, arched walkways, and a kitchen with blue tile, butcher block counters , a stainless steel fridge, redwood cabinets, and fir flooring. You'll also find the second bedroom, laundry room, and entrance to the backyard which is undoubtedly the selling point of the house.

    The Exterior

The outside of this house is even more charming than the inside. When you walk out of the kitchen you are met with a slightly hidden latrine which is perfect for outdoor gatherings. The garden is made up of lush greenery, mature trees, florals, and large stones that are placed strategically throughout the entirety of the property's exterior. There is even a footbridge that sits across Temescal Creek.

From the high ceilings to the ethereal garden, this storybook home is fit for a prince or princess.
