The Mile High City is in for a treat Thursday — Independence Day — as weather around the I-25 corridor will be just about perfect for barbeques during the day and fireworks in the evening.

Denver residents can expect a 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 5 p.m., according to the National Weather Service in Boulder. It'll be sunny with a high near 83 and light and variable winds, becoming east northeast 5 to 10 mph in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

"The Fourth of July will have pleasant weather with partly cloudy skies and highs in the low 80s," the NWS said. "The only concern for firework shows will be a slight chance of showers and storms mainly in northern Larimer and Weld Counties and across the Palmer Divide."

Tonight we'll see a 20% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 11 p.m. It'll be mostly clear with a low around 56 and east northeast winds to blow between 5 to 10 mph, becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 16 mph.

Saturday will be the hottest day of the weekend, with temperatures pushing toward 90. Otherwise, the long term period will be overall cooler and drier most days heading into next week.

Here is the rest of the week’s forecast from the National Weather Service:

Friday: A 10% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Sunny, with a high near 83. Light and variable wind becoming east northeast 5 to 7 mph in the morning.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 89. West southwest wind 6 to 9 mph becoming north in the afternoon. Winds could gust as high as 22 mph.

Sunday: A 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Mostly sunny, with a high near 80.

Monday: A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after noon. Sunny, with a high near 84.
