Carthage woman airlifted to hospital after dog attack
CARTHAGE, New York (WWNY) - A Carthage woman had to be airlifted to a Syracuse hospital after being attacked by a dog. The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said deputies were called to Carthage Area Hospital shortly before 9 p.m. on Tuesday. Hospital officials reported that a woman had been brought in with a serious dog bite injury.

Syracuse Hancock International Airport TSA intercepts firearm at airport checkpoint
SYRACUSE, N.Y. (WSYR-TV) — Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers intercepted a loaded firearm at Syracuse Hancock International Airport that was detected in a traveler’s carry-on items at the checkpoint yesterday, Tuesday, July 23. A .45 caliber handgun was found loaded with eight bullets, including one in the chamber.
Over $20,000 spent on tree removal from storm in Homer; more damage costs expected
The storm that ripped through the village of Homer two weeks ago is coming with a cost, and more is expected in the near future. At Tuesday’s board of trustees meeting, deputy mayor Pat Clune said tree removal has cost the village about $21,000. Phil Stockton, the village’s department of public works superintendent, added (via a drone) that 17 total trees were down from the storm on July 10.
Amazon debuts electric delivery vehicles in Syracuse
SYRACUSE N.Y. — Amazon, in partnership with Rivian, has soft-launched new electric delivery vehicles in the Syracuse area. There are now more than 35 electric delivery vehicles on the road in the region. The rollout is a part of Amazon's commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The initiative first began in Syracuse with the opening of a delivery station in 2021, which can hold up to 200 electric vehicles.

Former Syracuse basketball guard Joe Girard signs overseas contract
SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Former Syracuse basketball guard and Glens Falls native, Joseph Girard III has signed a contract to play in Lithuania for the 2024-25 season. Girard will play for Nevezis in Lithuania’s top league, the team announced. Girard confirmed the news in a text message to Syracuse.com. Nevezis finished ninth place in the LKL at 10-20 last season.
